Moving makes an impetus

Moving makes an impetus
to clear out old things,
to find solace in release,
to no longer cling.
Seek vindication within
the personal spring.
Do not resist the changes.
Enjoy what's coming.

Three Word Wednesday CCLXVII (267)
impetus, solace,vindication

We'll be moving this Yule. I'm excited for the new place, meeting new people, and seeing new things. However, moving is always a process and generally stressful. One step I'm both dreading and looking forward to: finding stuff we no longer need and can donate.

Getting Blood Drawn

The puncture
jerked me from daydream.
Do not look.
I hate blood.
Movies with lots of carnage
often make me faint.

Saw the form at Poetic Bloomings
Shadorma: a syllable count of 3/5/3/3/7/5.

Got some wordly inspiration from Three Word Wednesday

Playing With Brevity

My friend Mike put together a nice guest post for me. In it, he challenged me, and any willing reader, to try Hemmingway's six word challenge. I enjoy playing with brevity, so here are a few bits of micropoetry.

6 Words:

Couch cuddling:
a dog's perfect day.

Thermostat settings:
'parka needed'
or 'naked'

Ecology: the scientific circle of life.

Death: the inescapable eventuality of life.

Everything alive
adapts or it dies.

Love lets lovers glide like birds.

Lie down. Now a little pinch...

Five fearless fighters freed fertile fields.

10 Words:

i slipped
i ache
i laugh
really
i am embarrassed

Chop. Fry. Add spice.
Stir. Simmer. Serve.
Eat. Drink. Enjoy.

Meditation:
may I be
happy,
healthy,
peaceful,
safe,
and loved.

If you're intrigued, you can search #sixwords on twitter for lots of people trying it out. Some are quite clever.

Viable

My wife gasped.
The doctor kept talking,
but,
my world was on mute.

I drove home on auto-pilot.
Sitting on the couch,
it finally sank in:

the embryo wasn't viable.

Three Word Wednesday CCLLV
gasp, mute, viable

Sirens' Song

No man is immune
to the sirens' song.
While love seems to
radiate from the shore,
hearts and ships are
dashed on the rocks and
drenched in the sea.

Dose Me (Four Poems, One Title)

A small pinch, the needle pierces my skin.
A wonderful dose flows into my veins.
I appear comatose for a few hours,
but my mind is exploring other worlds.

The doctor finally appears.
The piercing pain in my stomach
is only getting worse, I feel.
Will someone give me a dose
of something soon, morphine maybe?

The doctors here dose me daily.
I appear more affable, but
the piercing parley in my head
is not quitting or quieting.

One small dose with his meal today.
No piercing to give it away.
"Natural causes," they will say.
How much are you willing to pay?

Appear, Dose, Pierce

Only Playing

The banter between them
was getting personal.

Mutual friends
did not make them friends.

Tolerant, but barely.

Yesterday, Kris was seen
kissing
Val's recent ex
(who, it was hoped,
would return).

"It's quite silly to think
that people are naturally kind."

"Of course, the unkind among us
   would be the cynic.
   Blame nature for your behavior."

"Are you suggesting
I stole Alex?
You fumbled that play.
Should've gone to bed sooner.
Or do you not know the game?"

"Love ought not to be a game.
For you, it's merely a word
   you use to explain
   your salacious actions."

"And you think any stranger's glance
in your direction
means love.
Pathetic."

      Stop it right now
      or you'll both leave,
      the hostess warns.

"We're only playing.
Right, dear?"

   "Of course."
   She smiles gently.
   "When's dinner?"

Alter Perception

Alter perception
if fond of tranquility.
Then find inner peace.

Three Word Wednesday CCXLIV
Alter, Fond, Tranquil

At first I had something more complicated in mind, but then this haiku suddenly appeared. It's much better.

Erratic, Luminous, Omen

erratic behavior
under luminous moon
constitutes bad omen

Walking in circles, Marissa's erratic behavior this evening was starting to worry even herself. Some people say a luminous full moon will cause people to act strangely, she says to herself, that's probably all it is. Somehow, that's not making her feel better. Plus, Joey wasn't here yet. It sure felt like a bad omen.

Three Word Wednesday CCXLIII
Erratic, Luminous, Omen

A tiny poem and a flash fiction. It felt right to do both.

leave the tree naked

Honors and Appreciation

Earthen Fort Visit was chosen as Poem of the Week by Luna on Jingle Poetry! I'm so proud, very excited, and a bit surprised. Of course, I'm also honored and humbled. Thank you so much!

I've been enjoying participating in Jingle Poetry's weekly Poetry Potlucks for a few weeks now, and I've loved meeting and reading new poets. Hanging out on this blog also led me to Carry On Tuesday, Three Word Wednesday, and Thursday Poets' Rally from Promising Poets Parking Lot.

I started writing poetry when I was a kid, as part of some English class in elementary school. It's always been something I've enjoyed, but I had put it down for a long time due to being busy and feeling uncreative. I'm glad I started up a blog for National Poetry Writing Month.

When I started my blog, I didn't really think I'd have very many followers or get many readers outside of my family and friends. Mostly, it was a way to feel more accountable for writing a poem every day during the month. I've been pleasantly surprised, honored, and overjoyed by all the positive attention, the new and interesting poetry, and being part of online poetry communities.

I'm so glad that my writings are enjoyed by others and that I've been able to share them with other artists. Thank you to everyone who has read, commented on, and enjoyed any of my poetry.

Skid Marks

She burst onto the scene
of my life
bringing adventure,
joy,
love.
She left just as quickly,
leaving skid marks
across my heart.
Black marks
that I fear will never fade.

Thinking of her body,
her joviality,
our exploits,
my face becomes damp with tears
and my heartbeat is dampened
by sadness.

I try to be incensed,
to have fire in my heart,
but no such emotion can emerge
from the melancholy
which has taken up residence
in my soul.

Love Yourself

You brandish your love
hoping I will fear losing you
as much as you fear losing me.

You cry me your tears
hoping I will have pity for you
as much as you pity yourself.

You forbid me from leaving
hoping I will want to stay with you
as much as you want me to stay.

You have not managed
to make me want to stay.

You have managed
to make me pity you.

You will never manage
to make me love you.

Love yourself.
No one can do it for you.

Nervous Dancer

She has little fame,
jitters at her name.
The act begins.

She enters the stage.
Then her practiced grace
flows through her limbs.

Her thin form creates
an artistic frame.
And the dance ends.
