All that I make now is for me.

When you feel like
they all mock you,
say to yourself
that it's for you.
All of your work
is not for them.

Lost in deep thought,
all creative,
is the real you.
Not what they say.

Lost your mind yet?
No, still making
all my art. It
is part of me,
not made for you.
Lost my way once
at your prodding.
All that I make now is for me.

Today's poem inspired by OK GO's "All Is Not Lost"
"When they say that all is lost,
all is not lost.
No, all is not lost at all."

  2. Perfect. It's nice to have applause and validation, but in the end writing comes from somewhere within, and if you are pleased with it, there's a special sort of joy attached that can't be duplicated.
(As they say, you can't love others wholly and completely until you learn to love yourself.)

  5. I love this, pernicious and precarious is the path followed to please, entertain, or gain approval. Thank you for your discerning and encouraging comments on my experimental poetry. Always lovely to meet another scientist poet!

  6. Jessica, love to hear a poet express this thought. We all have folders of rejection letters, etc., and it's easy to lose heart, but here you are, drawing the line in the sand: It's mine, not for you. (And in doing so, you find how many people do like, even love, your essence!) Well done. Amy Barlow Liberatore

  10. "All that I make now is for me"
A sensible option when "us" is not possible. I enjoyed the words and the idea!

  11. There are days I have to remind myself ... I started writing as a reflection and journey for me ... it may not always make sense to another, but it allows a cathartic exercise, and another step in the journey of self discovery ... if it touches someone else it is a delight the message was shared!

    Thank you for sharing!

seabell - I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Becca - Some days it's easier to remember than others why you write. It's nice to have a reminder once in a while.
